I Wore Sweats To Work…And Didn’t Get Fired

We all have those days: maybe it’s early in the week and you’re (still) recovering from the weekend, or maybe it’s Friday and it’s been that kind of a week—either way, some days it’s just harder than others to roll out of bed and get into real people clothes. And for days where it’s impossible, the good news is, it is possible to wear your PJ’s to work—and not get fired! Here’s how I did it:

Veronica Beard The Jessica Pare and Cristina Ehrlich Jacket, $895; Sam Edelman “Celia” pump, $36; J.Crew Collection Cashmere Sweatpant, $298; Madewell Slub V-Neck Pocket Tee, $25; Rebecca Minkoff M.A.B. Tote, $295.

Of course, we are certainly not talking your oversized, college-logo-emblazoned sweats (which, don’t lie, you purchased in excess during orientation week all those years ago)—a slim-fit, cashmere pair is flattering enough for daytime wear and yes, luxe enough to sport in public. Dress it up with an almost-too-fancy blazer, like this double-breasted, black satin lapel piece—toned down only by your favorite white tee. A work-appropriate tote in minimalist colors gives the look some structure, and a pair of sleek, statement-making metallic pumps that help pull the whole look together.
